Despite what you might think from some (or really one in particular) of the stories I've told, we are actually being as conscientious about our safety as we can. I read numerous books and articles about traveling safely, traveling alone, etc. And have taken many nuggets of advice to heart. This is why I never post anything about our itinerary, and only after we have been somewhere or done something do I mention it. The Internet is a big scary place. The world can be too. However, since we are leaving Bangkok today, I think it's time I talk about our hotel. For the past five nights, the Anantara Sathorn has been our home. Thank god for it. No really. It has been a safe haven from this crazy city. We really lucked out. It's a pretty new hotel so not many people know about it (which was sort of a problem when trying to get back from the grand palace, but whatever). A few months ago they ran a flash sale on jetsetter.com (if you don't know what that is, I HIGHLY recommend you sign up and check it out if you ever like to travel anywhere) and showed an obscenely low rate for a two bedroom suite in Bangkok that included breakfast each day. The pictures looked great, trip advisor reviews were mainly positive, we hadn't found anything better, and for our unique little group of three, two bedrooms sounded very appealing. It may not be in the perfect location, but we have all been very happy with our nice little apartment and accommodations.
Our living room/ dining room area. You can't see it but we also had a refrigerator.
My bedroom.
Master bedroom.
Master bathroom. You can't see it but there is also a bathtub that I'm standing in to take this picture. My bathroom was just a slightly smaller version of this.
We didn't know what to expect from the included breakfast, so assumed that it would be very limited. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that it was a full and plentiful buffet with any kind of breakfast food you could possibly want.
Lots of milk and juice options.
Omlette and egg set up. They do them however you like.
One part of the array of hot foods. There were plenty more.
I knew this was a safe place to try new fruits. The above are the outside of my two favorites. Funny that they have skins so I'd probably still be cool getting them off the street. But I just feel better eating them here.
Not what you'd expect, right?!
The pool was a fantastic salt water infinity pool that, though cold, was exactly what we needed. I could just go on and on. We feel extremely fortunate to have found this gem of a place at a backpacker rate.
